What are you doing to get ready? Having a party? Sponsored climb up a mountain? or maybe organising a blow your socks off event in your community. Whatever it is its not to early to start thinking  about it and getting folks interested in taking part and contributing.

So what is Recovery Month 2017 all about.

Recovery Month, here in the UK has been gaining quite a reputation for the last few years from the recovery community with many people in recovery organising small community events and was officially recognised and supported by the NTA  in England during 2011.

You might be surprised to learn that Recovery month is now in its 28th year, across the world and this year we expect to see lots more activities and events taking place in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales to celebrate our recovery.   .

This year for Recovery Month 2017 and each year September is the month where we as individuals who have reclaimed our lives can really promote and celebrate the virtues of what being in recovery actually means. We do this not just with each other but by offering ourselves as living proof of recovery, a visible presence offering hope to those that still suffer and challenging stereotypes, judgements and myths about addiction .

Please see our Recovery Month Toolkit which supports and empowers Recovery Communities, treatment or recovery support services, peer led recovery support projects, service user groups and people in recovery getting together to organise events for Recovery Month. The Toolkit can be downloaded here Favor Toolkit for Recovery Month 24pp Pages

Recovery Month 2017 during September is also an opportunity for us all to honor the work of the many people and agencies who work hard every day in the area of both prevention and treatment.

The Purple Heart of Recovery represents the bravery and courage displayed every day by people, professionals and families in their service to others.  Click on the link here to get your courage and bravery badge.

Recovery Month 2017 also gives recovery service providers and individuals in recovery the opportunity to celebrate and congratulate the hard work that goes into making recovery possible.

Many of the events taking place this September for Recovery Month 2017 will be found on your Recovery Event Calender so if you are planning something let us know and we will spread the word.

1080219_10151884726862289_1070189520_nPlease send us your events for inclusion on the Recovery Month 2017 events calendar and we can help share the message of hope that recovery is a reality.

Each September here in the UK, thousands of prevention, treatment, and recovery community organisations, recovery projects and services will celebrate their successes and we hope, take the opportunity to share them with their neighbours, friends, and colleagues as a way to educate the public about recovery, how it works, who it works for, and why our projects and services are so badly needed in our communities.

There are hundreds of thousands of us whose lives have been transformed through recovery living here in the UK. Our successes and those of the people who are dedicated to supporting us often go unnoticed and unrewarded by the wider public, therefore, Recovery Month 2017 provides us with a perfect vehicle to celebrate all of our accomplishments together.
