We are delighted to announce that the UK Recovery Walk charity will now be known as FAVOR UK. Being originally inspired by the work of FAVOR in the US we had wanted to adopt the name FAVOR UK when the UK Recovery Walk charity was originally established but decided not to for two main reasons.
Firstly we wanted to be known as the home of the UK Recovery Walk. We have established a fair and transparent annual bidding process to host the walk and will continue to be the proud custodians of the UK Recovery Walk baton that we share with the host town/city every year. We look forward to the walk continuing to grow each year.
Secondly we did not believe that a few trustees and a handful of eager supporters gave us a legitimate mandate to be faces and voices of recovery in the UK. However, we have grown in a way we could never have anticipated or imagined and now have over 1100 members, made up of individuals in recovery, their friends and families, and Community Recovery Organisations.
During the last two years we have undertaken an increasing amount of recovery advocacy work, supporting individuals and challenging the institutions they are working with to serve them better. We have continued to support and promote international Recovery Month each September in partnership with our Faces and Voices of Recovery friends in the US, Canada, South Africa, Japan, and Australia.
Our trustees, members and supporters now feel that both our mandate and our primary purpose are best described by the name Faces and Voices of Recovery UK (FAVOR UK)
