Each year FAVOR UK members guided by the bidding process choose one UK city or Town to host the National Recovery Walk/Event. This takes place each September and raises awareness of substance use disorders and recovery from addiction. Our 2021 UK Recovery Walk will take place on the 18th of September in Newcastle.
The 2021 walk will be going ahead – Conference on the 17th & Walk on the 18th but unfortunately due to the current situation with Covid 19 & warnings about the new Variants it will be on a much smaller scale with only socially distanced participants from within the local areas being able to take part.
We will however be having a online celebration – again covid allowing with our friends online. We will update this page as more details ASAP.
At the events, people in recovery, their families and friends are encouraged to share their stories as a demonstration that long-term recovery is a reality in their lives.
The focus of the UK Recovery Walk is a public education and outreach campaign that communicates by offering living proof of the reality of long-term addiction recovery. We also highlight the many pathways and styles of such recovery to the public, policymakers, the media and communities.
We hope you and your families will join us to take part each year as we walk proudly together confirming and upholding that recovery from addiction is not only possible but a reality.
will focus on addiction and recovery within the LGBT community, and will aim to increase understanding of the increased prevalence of addiction to alcohol, drugs and other risky behaviours in the community, and increase knowledge of good practice in drugs and alcohol outreach, treatment and recovery support services in addition to recovery initiatives led by the LGBT community itself.
FAVOR UK is delighted to welcome several esteemed keynote speakers who will share their profound wisdom and experience.
Speakers will include:
Dan Carden MP, who in the House of Commons spoke about how coming to terms with his sexuality growing up led him into alcoholism, which then led to his recovery in a 12-step fellowship.
This year’s conference is aimed towards those working within the recovery sector or LGBT community, or those with personal interest and experience of the aforementioned.
You will be able to tune in LIVE & interact with all speakers from the conference at 10.30am till 4 here on the 17th
and performers at the Walk from 12 till 4pm on the 18th September
