Dear Friends, Members ,Colleagues, and the FAVORUK Community,

As 2023 draws to a close and we look towards 2024, I reflect on our journey at @FAVORUK, marked not just by progress but by the courage to challenge norms and confront uncomfortable truths in the realm of the addiction recovery sector.

This year, we embraced the role of being ‘disagreeable’ activists – not in the sense of being unpleasant, but in our unwavering commitment to challenge entrenched societal norms and advocate for vital changes & investment for addiction services. We’ve stood assertively against the tide, persisting despite opposition that has been nothing short of abusive in some cases, because the path to recovery for many hinges on our ability to advocate boldly and relentlessly.

Our work this year went beyond mere awareness; we provoked thought and stimulated discussions, urging people to reconsider their perspectives on addiction and recovery. This has been essential in fostering a deeper understanding and empathy within our community and beyond.

Negotiation and advocating for change have been our constant undertakings, especially in spaces where our views did not align with established interests or practices. It demanded from us not just assertiveness but a profound moral courage – the willingness to uphold our beliefs despite potential risks or consequences.

As we enter the festive season, let’s acknowledge that for many, this time can be challenging. Our message is one of hope and solidarity. We stand together in the journey towards recovery, enriched by our shared experiences and communal strength.

Looking ahead to 2024, we remain committed to our mission with renewed vigor. Our goal is clear: to ensure that everyone seeking help for addiction has access to the necessary services. We will continue to be the voice of change, advocating for policies that support and empower those on the path to & this seeking recovery.

Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas and a New Year filled with hope, health, and the courage to embrace change.

Warm regards,

Annemarie Ward CEO, Faces and Voices of Recovery UK (FAVORUK)
